John Deere 523971.04 – AIC / ACU: Signal Voltage From The Rear Hitch Height Control Slide is too Low
Issue description
The system has detected that the circuit voltage has dropped below the minimum threshold (typically below 0.5 V). As a safety and operational precaution, the control unit's response is to disable the rear hitch control lever.

Check the cause
Use a multimeter to verify the actual voltage levels at the rear hitch control lever sensor. Confirm if the voltage is indeed dropping below the 0.5V threshold.
Inspect the sensor's circuit, wiring harness, and electrical connectors for signs of wear, corrosion, or looseness that could be causing a voltage drop or a short to ground.
Ensure that the tractor's power sources (batteries and alternator) are functioning properly and providing adequate baseline voltage to the armrest control circuits.
Repair steps
Access the Sensor
Remove the control console cover on the armrest that houses the position feedback unit/depth-setting potentiometer.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed wires, corroded pins, or loose connectors in the ACU/AIC harness, repair or replace the affected wiring sections.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact and the voltage is still out of range, the sensor itself has failed. Pull off the control knobs, remove the hex nuts, and carefully press out the faulty depth-setting potentiometer using a screwdriver. Install the new sensor and reassemble the console.
Recalibrate
After making repairs or replacing the sensor, you must recalibrate the hitch control system via the tractor's monitor or John Deere Service Advisor to ensure proper functionality and clear the code.
Parts you might need
