John Deere 523975.03 – SFA / TSC: TLS Axle All the Way Down, Voltage Too High (During Calibration)

Issue description

Triggered when the controller detects that the signal output voltage from the TLS (Triple Link Suspension) position sensor (B53) is too high (greater than 1.5 volts) while the suspended front-wheel drive axle is at its absolute bottom position during the calibration or bleeding process.

Check the cause

  1. Verify calibration conditions: Ensure the tractor is stationary and the engine speed is at the specified RPM before assuming a hard fault.

  2. Check sensor output: Using a diagnostic scan tool or a multimeter, monitor the signal output of the TLS position sensor (B53) to verify if the voltage drops below 1.5 volts when the axle is physically lowered to its bottom position.

  3. Inspect the sensor circuit: Examine the wiring harness and connectors for the TLS position sensor (B53) for signs of physical damage, loose connections, corrosion, or a short-to-power in the wiring.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the tractor on level ground, engage the parking brake, and ensure the front axle is safely supported if you are working near the suspension components.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the TLS position sensor (B53) and its mounting hardware on the front axle suspension linkage.

  3. Inspect and Clean

    Disconnect the sensor harness. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner.

  4. Test the Harness

    Test the wiring harness back to the SFA/TSC module for continuity, shorts to power, or open grounds. Repair any damaged wiring or replace the connector pigtail if necessary.

  5. Replace the Sensor

    If the wiring is intact but the sensor output remains out of specification (stuck above 1.5V at the bottom position), the internal potentiometer of the sensor has likely failed. Remove the mounting hardware and replace the TLS position sensor.

  6. Recalibrate

    After replacing the sensor or repairing the wiring, you must perform the TLS front-wheel drive axle calibration process using John Deere Service ADVISOR (or equivalent diagnostic tool) to teach the module the new sensor's upper and lower voltage limits.
