John Deere 523976.31 – TSC (Tractor Suspension Control) or SFA (Suspended Front Axle / Front Chassis Module): TLS Axle Does Not Reach Level Position in Target Time (During Calibration)
Issue description
The tractor's Triple Link Suspension (TLS) or Independent Linked Suspension (ILS) system is commanding the front axle to raise or lower to a specific target height, but the axle is failing to reach that position within the programmed time limit. This often results in the suspension 'hunting' (constantly moving up and down), defaulting to a locked/disabled state, or failing the end-of-line calibration process.

Check the cause
Inspect the physical control rod/linkage connecting the front axle to the TLS position sensor for bent rods, broken ball joints, or excessive play.
Check the wiring harness and 3-pin connector going to the TLS rotary position sensor for corrosion, moisture, or wire chafing.
Check hydraulic accumulators for blown or internal leaks by observing if the suspension feels excessively bouncy or bottoms out.
Ensure the TLS suspension control valve is receiving electrical signals and that the solenoids are functioning (internal spool wear or contaminated oil can cause pressure loss).
Attempt to run the TLS calibration procedure through the tractor's CommandCenter display or a diagnostic tool to see if it fails with an 'ERR' after 'EOC'.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to protect the electronic control modules.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the TLS position sensor, which is typically mounted above the front axle and connected to the axle housing via a small control rod.
Remove the Linkage
Carefully pop the ball joint of the control rod off the sensor arm.
Remove the Sensor
Unplug the 3-wire electrical connector. Remove the mounting bolts holding the rotary position sensor to the chassis.
Install the New Sensor
Clean the mounting surface thoroughly. Install the new sensor and tighten the mounting hardware.
Reconnect Linkage and Wiring
Reattach the control rod to the sensor arm (replace the rod if the ball joints are worn). Plug in the electrical connector.
Recalibrate the System
Reconnect the battery. You must perform a TLS axle calibration using the tractor's display monitor or a diagnostic tool so the TSC/SFA module can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage limits of the replacement sensor.
Address Valve Block (if needed)
If replacing the sensor does not resolve the calibration failure, the TLS Suspension Control Valve (which controls hydraulic pressure to the cylinders) will need to be rebuilt or replaced due to internal bypassing.
