524019.31

John Deere 524019.31 – CAB / ACU / AIC: Forward/Reverse Drive Lever Neutral Position Issue

Issue description

The Reversible Handle Reverser (RHR) or Left-Hand Reverser (LHR) lever takes longer than 5 seconds to transition from a neutral to a not-neutral position, or the system detects that the lever is being held in an invalid position, forcing the tractor transmission to default to PARK.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 7210J
  • 7810
  • 8310R
  • 8310RT
  • 8335RT
  • 8360RT
  • 8370RT
  • 9410R
  • 9430
  • 9530
  • 9630

Check the cause

  1. Move the reverser lever to the PARK position and restart the engine to see if the system recovers

  2. Inspect the reverser lever mechanism for any signs of mechanical obstruction, dirt, wear, or damage that could be physically blocking the lever

  3. Check the cleanliness and lubrication of the moving parts associated with the reverser lever

  4. Use Service ADVISOR to measure the actual transition time of the lever and verify the extent of the delay

  5. Check if the transmission or the reverser lever requires recalibration to optimize transition times according to OEM specifications

Repair steps

  1. Clear the Code

Place the reverser lever in the PARK position, cycle the key off, and restart the vehicle. If the code clears and the tractor drives normally, it may have been a temporary operator error.

  2. Clean and Lubricate

If the lever feels stiff, disassemble the plastic cowling around the steering column (for LHR) or the CommandARM (for RHR). Clean out any debris and lightly lubricate the mechanical pivot points.

  3. Recalibrate

If mechanical adjustments do not shorten the transition time, use Service ADVISOR to recalibrate the reverser lever sensors and the transmission control settings.

  4. Replace the Reverser Unit

If the lever transition time remains out of spec (over 5 seconds) or the sensor track inside the lever assembly is worn out/failing, the electronic reverser control assembly must be replaced.

  5. Post-Repair Test

After replacing the module, clear the stored CAB/ACU/AIC codes, start the machine, and verify that the transmission engages forward and reverse without defaulting to PARK.
