Check the cause
Ensure the reverser lever is physically in the Neutral or Park position, turn the key off, and restart the engine
Check the reverser lever for physical looseness or wear, especially the detent mechanism
Perform an operational check of the S80 Reverse Drive Lever switches using the tractor's diagnostic display (CommandCenter)
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the reverser lever and the control module for loose pins, chafed wires, or corrosion
Verify the 12-volt power supply to the reverse drive lever is stable and check for blown fuses
Repair steps
Reset the System
Place the reverser lever in PARK or NEUTRAL. Restart the vehicle. If the code returns immediately, proceed to hardware troubleshooting.
Access the Reverser Lever
Remove the steering column cowling or open the armrest console (depending on where your reverser is located) to access the S80 switch assembly and its wiring harness.
Test the Switches
Using a multimeter, test the continuity of the neutral switch and the directional switches within the lever assembly. If the neutral switch fails to close when the lever is centered, the switch or the entire lever assembly is faulty.
Repair Wiring
If the switches test good, trace the harness back to the control module. Repair any damaged wires or replace corroded connector terminals.
Replace the Component
If the lever assembly or internal neutral switch is defective, replace it with the appropriate OEM part.
Verify Neutral Start Interlock
After reassembly, depress the clutch/brake and attempt to start the engine with the lever in Forward or Reverse. The engine must not start. It should only start when the lever is in Neutral or Park.
