524022.31

John Deere 524022.31 – FCC, CAB, UIC, PTR, or ACU: Issue With Signals From The Forward/Reverse Lever

Issue description

The control unit detects 'No Switch Signal' or an 'All Switches Off Fault' from the reverse drive lever. The system registers that all lever switches are simultaneously not activated, suggesting a loss of power to the lever, a wiring failure, or a malfunction of the lever's internal position sensors. The control unit will typically prevent the tractor from moving or limit its functionality to ensure safe operation.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a system reset by placing the reverser lever in the PARK position and restarting the engine to see if communication messages clear.

  2. Check power to the lever by verifying the CAB switched power voltage. Specifically, inspect Fuse F15 in the cab fuse panel.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Left-Hand Reverser and the dash/cab module for open circuits, chafed wires, or loose pins.

  4. Perform a Neutral Start Circuit Test: Move range-shift lever to neutral and reverse drive lever to forward or reverse. Start the engine and wait 6-7 seconds; the 'N' display must light up. Depress the clutch, engage a range, and slowly release the clutch. The tractor must not move.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Reverser

Remove the steering column/dash cowling to access the base of the Left-Hand Reverser (Forward/Reverse Lever) assembly.

  3. Verify Voltage

Reconnect the battery temporarily, turn the key to the ON position, and use a multimeter to probe the reverser lever connector. Verify that the lever is receiving the correct reference voltage from the CAB/FCC module.

  4. Replace the Lever Assembly

If power and ground are present at the connector but the module still reports 'No Switch Signal' (meaning the internal sensors/switches have failed), the Left-Hand Reverser Multi-Function Control Unit must be replaced. Disconnect the wiring harness, unbolt the lever assembly from the steering column, and install the new unit.

  5. Reassemble and Calibrate

Reinstall the dash cowling. Start the tractor and shift the reverser lever to PARK, then test Forward, Neutral, and Reverse to ensure the code 524022.31 clears and the transmission engages properly.
