John Deere 524055.12 – XMC: Control Software Internal Fault

Issue description

A critical fault occurred when the module's software was launched or initialized. This startup failure is typically caused by corrupted software, an incorrect software installation/update, or an internal hardware failure within the module that prevents the software from booting correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the tractor's key switch to reboot the system and clear potential startup software glitches

  2. Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR to verify the current software version on the XMC module and check if a recent update failed or was interrupted

  3. Inspect the wiring harness connected to the XMC module for secure connections, corrosion, or damage that could cause a severe voltage drop during startup

Repair steps

  1. Reboot the System

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and let the CAN bus system power down completely (wait at least 2-3 minutes). Restart the tractor to see if the XMC 524055.12 code clears.

  2. Reflash / Update Software

If the code remains active, connect the John Deere Service ADVISOR tool. Attempt to re-flash the XMC module with the latest software payload. This resolves issues where the software was corrupted or incorrectly installed.

  3. Module Replacement

If the Service ADVISOR tool cannot communicate with the XMC module, or if the software flash fails repeatedly, the internal memory (EEPROM) or processor within the module has failed. You must replace the AutoTrac Steering Controller.

  4. Calibration

After replacing the XMC module, use Service ADVISOR to program the new controller to the tractor's CAN bus network and perform the AutoTrac steering calibration procedures.
