524096.02

John Deere 524096.02 – AIC (Armrest Interface Control Unit): Armrest Engine Speed Control Module Message Fault / Hand Throttle Potentiometer, Voltage Ratio Between Channel 1 and Channel 2 Not Correct

Issue description

There is a communication fault between the Armrest Interface Control software and the engine speed control module (hand throttle). The controller is either receiving a faulty LIN message from the module, or it detects a mismatch in the dual-channel signal voltages coming from the hand throttle potentiometer, causing the hand throttle function to be disabled or restricted.

Check the cause

  1. Power cycle the tractor's ignition to see if the fault is a transient glitch that clears upon a system reboot.

  2. Inspect the LIN Bus system wiring harness between the AIC and the hand throttle/engine speed control module for physical damage, pinched wires, or disconnections.

  3. Check the connectors at the hand throttle potentiometer for corrosion, loose pins, or moisture ingress that could interfere with signal transmission.

  4. Use a multimeter to verify that the engine speed control module is receiving proper power and ground.

  5. Check the voltage ratio between Channel 1 and Channel 2 of the hand throttle potentiometer to confirm if the sensor itself has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Access the Armrest Console

Carefully disassemble the armrest control console to access the internal wiring and the hand throttle assembly.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or corroded connectors on the LIN Bus circuit, repair the wiring or replace the connector pigtail.

  4. Replace the Potentiometer/Module

If the wiring is intact but the potentiometer failed the voltage ratio test (or is not sending LIN messages), remove the retaining screws/clips holding the hand throttle potentiometer or the armrest engine speed control module. Install the new OEM replacement part.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the wiring harness to the new module and reassemble the armrest console.

  6. System Reset and Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's CommandCenter display) to clear the fault codes. Perform a test run, operating the hand throttle through its full range of motion to ensure the AIC is successfully receiving the correct messages and the fault does not return.
