524096.04

John Deere 524096.04 – AIC (Armrest Integrated Controller): Low Voltage in Armrest Engine Speed Control Module

Issue description

Logged when the control unit detects that the signal input voltage from channel 1 of the hand throttle potentiometer has dropped below 0.5 volts, which impairs the functionality of the engine speed control and disables the hand throttle or places it in a limited function state.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the hand throttle potentiometer and its wiring connections (specifically the channel 1 signal circuit) for physical damage, wear, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Ensure that the potentiometer's 5-volt reference power supply from the AIC is stable and delivering the correct voltage.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the signal lead for an open circuit or a short to ground.

Repair steps

  1. Power Cycle

Turn off the tractor, wait a few moments, and turn the key back on to see if the code is an intermittent glitch. If the code remains active, proceed to physical repairs.

  2. Harness Repair

If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire, corroded connector, or a short to ground in the harness between the hand throttle and the AIC, repair or replace the affected wiring section.

  3. Sensor Replacement

If the wiring harness, ground, and 5V reference supply are all intact and testing within specification, the hand throttle potentiometer itself has failed internally. Remove the armrest console trim to access the throttle assembly and replace the potentiometer.

  4. Clear and Test

After replacing the sensor or repairing the wiring, clear the AIC error codes using a diagnostic tool or monitor. Test the hand throttle through its full sweep to ensure engine RPM responds correctly and the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Hand Throttle Potentiometer

    AL159541

Common hand throttle potentiometer for various John Deere models. Always verify the part number against the specific machine's serial number.

  • Position Sensor Kit / Hand Throttle Sensor

    AL235418

Position Sensor Kit / Hand Throttle Sensor. Exact part number depends heavily on the specific tractor series and the type of armrest console fitted. Verify against serial number.
