John Deere 524107.03 – PTA / TCU: Y2 Proportional Solenoid Valve 2 for Hydrostatic Unit, Voltage Too High
Issue description
This diagnostic trouble code is generated when the control software registers a voltage value or resistance at the proportional solenoid valve 2 (Y2) that does not correspond with the commanded working position or operating status of the hydrostatic unit. This typically indicates a short to power in the wiring circuit, or an internal coil failure within the solenoid itself due to thermal cycling.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors routing from the PTA/TCU to the Y2 proportional solenoid valve for rubbed wires shorting to power
Perform a multimeter test on the Y2 circuit to check for a short to voltage
Measure the internal resistance of the Y2 solenoid coil to check for an internal open or short
Verify the voltage output directly at the PTA/TCU pins to ensure the module is not outputting an incorrect voltage
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes while servicing transmission components.
Locate the Valve
Locate the Y2 proportional solenoid valve on the hydrostatic control valve housing of the IVT transmission.
Inspect/Repair Wiring
Disconnect the electrical connector at the valve. If corrosion, moisture, or damaged pins are found, clean or replace the connector. If the harness failed the diagnostic short test, splice and repair the affected wiring section.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid failed the resistance test, remove the retaining hardware and extract the Y2 solenoid valve.
Install New Valve
Lubricate the new O-rings with clean John Deere transmission fluid. Install the new proportional solenoid valve and torque to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the electrical harness and battery. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR (or a compatible diagnostic tool) to clear the PTA/TCU fault codes.
Test
Start the tractor and perform an operational check to ensure the transmission shifts smoothly and the code does not return. A transmission calibration may be required after replacing hydrostatic valves.
