John Deere 524107.04 – TCU: Y2 Proportional Solenoid Valve 2 for Hydrostatic Unit, Voltage Too Low

The control unit registers a resistance at the proportional solenoid valve Y2 that does not correspond with the commanded operating status of the hydrostatic unit, and a voltage drop at the solenoid valve is detected as being too low. This typically points to a short to ground, an open circuit, or a failed solenoid coil.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the TCU and the Y2 Proportional Solenoid Valve for rubbed wires, pinched harnesses, or exposed copper that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the Y2 solenoid and the TCU connectors to check for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

   Measure the resistance of the Y2 proportional solenoid valve coil using a multimeter to see if it matches the commanded operating status.

   Perform an operational check of the Hydrostatic Unit and the Y2 Proportional Solenoid Valve 2 via the tractor's diagnostic interface to monitor live voltage and current.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to ensure safety while working on the transmission electrical system.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the Y2 Proportional Solenoid Valve 2 on the transmission's hydrostatic control valve block.

   Wiring Repair

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground or a broken wire in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness using John Deere approved electrical connectors and heat shrink.

   Solenoid Replacement

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid failed the resistance test: Disconnect the electrical connector from the Y2 solenoid. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydrostatic unit. Unthread and remove the faulty Y2 proportional solenoid valve from the valve block. Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic/transmission fluid. Install the new solenoid valve and torque it to the manufacturer's specification.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector to the new solenoid. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear and Test

   Clear the TCU 524107.04 fault code using a diagnostic tool. Start the tractor and test the transmission operation (forward, reverse, and speed transitions) to ensure the hydrostatic unit operates correctly and the code does not return.
