John Deere 524107.05 – PTA or TCU: Proportional Solenoid Valve 2 (Y2) for Hydrostatic Unit, Current Too Low

The transmission control software registers a resistance or current value at the proportional solenoid valve Y2 that does not correspond with the commanded working position of the hydrostatic unit. This indicates that the electrical circuit of proportional solenoid valve 2 is open, or the solenoid is drawing insufficient amperage.

   Check for concurrent code 524108.05, which indicates a general problem with the shared supply voltage (VPS1) for both hydrostatic solenoid valves

   Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Y2 Proportional Solenoid Valve on the hydrostatic unit for corrosion, disconnection, or wire breaks

   Verify that the solenoid valve circuit is properly grounded, as poor grounding can cause low current flow

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the solenoid coil and the current flow to the valve to check for internal coil failure

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the transmission electrical circuits.

   Locate Valve Y2

   Locate the hydrostatic unit on the IVT transmission and identify Proportional Solenoid Valve 2 (Y2).

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire, chafed harness, or corroded connector pin, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail. Reconnect and test the machine.

   Replace the Solenoid (If Faulty)

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil failed the multimeter resistance/amperage test: Clean the area around the Y2 solenoid valve, disconnect the electrical harness, unthread/remove the faulty Y2 proportional solenoid valve from the hydrostatic unit block, lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission hydraulic fluid, install the new solenoid valve and torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery, clear the stored PTA/TCU fault codes via the monitor or John Deere Service Advisor, and perform a transmission calibration (Address TCU020) to ensure the controller learns the new valve's electrical signature.
