John Deere 524110.03 – PTA / TCU: Sensor for Transmission Output Speed, Voltage at Channel 2 Too High

The control software detects that the voltage at the signal input from channel 2 of the transmission output speed sensor (designated as sensor B63, lead 6083) is abnormally high. This typically indicates a supply voltage problem, an open sensor circuit, or a short to a positive lead, causing the machine to experience limited or no transmission function.

   Inspect the sensor circuit (specifically lead 6083 for channel 2) for any open connections or short circuits to a positive power lead.

   Examine all wiring and connectors associated with the B63 transmission output speed sensor for signs of damage, backed-out pins, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at channel 2 of the sensor to verify correct supply voltage and check for abnormally high return voltage readings.

   Ensure the PTA/TCU is correctly processing signals and check for bent pins at the module harness.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the B63 Transmission Output Speed Sensor on the transmission housing.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the sensor's electrical connector. Inspect both the sensor side and the harness side for moisture, dirt, or corrosion. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Test the Harness

   With the key ON (engine OFF), probe the harness to ensure it is not shorted to a 12V power source. Repair any damaged wiring or chafed insulation found in the harness leading back to the PTA/TCU.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring tests good but the voltage reading at the sensor remains out of specification (too high), the internal Hall effect circuitry of the sensor has likely failed. Remove the retaining bolt, pull the old B63 sensor out of the transmission housing, and install the new sensor.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the harness, clear the 524110.03 diagnostic trouble code via the monitor or service tool, and test drive the tractor to ensure transmission output speed is reading accurately and the code does not return.
