John Deere 524110.08 – PTA / TCU: Transmission Output Speed Sensor, Speed at Channel 2 Lower Than at Channel 1

The control software has detected a difference in frequency between the two sensor output signals for the transmission output speed. Specifically, the speed registered in Channel 2 is lower than the speed registered in Channel 1, which indicates a synchronization issue, a failing sensor, or a circuit problem.

   Compare Sensor Signals: Use a diagnostic tool to monitor and compare the frequency/speed outputs of Channel 1 and Channel 2 on the B63 sensor to confirm the discrepancy.

   Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the wiring harness (specifically lead 6083 associated with B63) and connectors for both channels. Look for signs of corrosion, disconnection, or damage.

   Check for Shorts: Test the sensor circuit for a short to ground or a short to a positive lead, which can artificially alter the voltage and frequency readings on one channel.

   Verify Calibration: Ensure that both channels are properly calibrated to provide accurate speed readings.

   Check Control Unit Processing: Ensure the PTA/TCU is correctly processing the signals and verify if a software update is required for the module.

   Locate the Sensor

   The B63 Transmission Output Speed Sensor is generally located on the transmission housing, directly above the rear axle.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, and turn off the engine.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the B63 sensor. Inspect the pins on both the sensor and the harness side for pushed-out pins or corrosion.

   Remove the Sensor

   Unbolt and remove the B63 Transmission Output Speed Sending Unit from the transmission housing.

   Install the New Sensor

   Insert the replacement sensor and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect and Calibrate

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn on the machine and use John Deere Service ADVISOR (or a compatible diagnostic tool) to clear the 524110.08 code and recalibrate the transmission speed sensors if necessary.

   Operate the tractor to ensure the transmission shifts correctly and the fault code does not return.
