John Deere 524153.03 – PTA / TCU: BG Solenoid Valve for Disk Brake, Voltage Too High

The control software registers a voltage and resistance value at the solenoid valve for the disk brake that does not correspond with the expected switch status of the BG disk brake. This indicates that there is a short to a positive lead in the circuit, or that the solenoid valve itself is defective.

   Inspect the wiring harness associated with the BG solenoid valve for any signs of damage, exposed wires, or shorting to a positive lead.

   Check all connections to the transmission module and the solenoid to ensure they are secure, fully seated, and free of corrosion or moisture.

   Use a multimeter to measure the voltage and resistance at the signal input of the BG solenoid valve. Compare the readings to ensure they change appropriately with the switch status of the disk brake.

   Verify that the PTA/TCU is correctly processing the signals and that the software is up to date.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the transmission electrical circuits.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to a positive lead in the wiring harness or a damaged connector, repair or replace the affected wiring section.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the multimeter tests show the BG solenoid valve is internally shorted or providing out-of-spec high voltage readings, the solenoid valve must be replaced.

   Reassemble and Reconnect

   Plug the harness back into the new solenoid and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Clear the 524153.03 code from the PTA/TCU module. Start the tractor and test the transmission and disk brake operation to ensure the code does not return and the system functions normally.
