John Deere 524153.04 – PTA / TCU: Solenoid Valve for Disk Brake (BG), Voltage Too Low

The control software registers a voltage value (or resistance/voltage drop) at the solenoid valve for the disk brake that does not correspond with the switch status of the BG disk brake, indicating a short to ground in the solenoid valve circuit. This typically results in limited or no transmission function.

   Inspect all wiring and connectors associated with the BG disk brake solenoid valve for signs of damage, chafing, or disconnection.

   Check the circuit specifically for shorts to ground (as indicated by the .04 voltage too low identifier) or open connections.

   Measure the current flow and resistance at the solenoid valve using a multimeter to see if it is drawing the correct current.

   Verify that the solenoid valve circuit is properly grounded and correct any grounding issues that may be causing the voltage drop.

   Locate the Component

   Locate the transmission control valve block and identify the BG (Disk Brake) solenoid valve.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the BG solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

   Test the Coil

   Using a multimeter, test the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. If the coil is shorted internally (reading out of specification), the solenoid valve must be replaced.

   Harness Repair

   If the solenoid tests good, trace the wiring harness back to the PTA/TCU module. Repair any chafed wires that are shorting to the tractor chassis/ground.

   Reassembly and Clearing

   Reconnect the harness, clear the PTA/TCU codes via the diagnostic monitor, and test the transmission functions to ensure the code does not return and full mobility is restored.
