524153.05

John Deere 524153.05 – PTA / TCU: BG Solenoid Valve for Disk Brake, Current Too Low

Issue description

This diagnostic trouble code is generated when the control software registers a current value (or resistance) at the solenoid valve for the disk brake that does not correspond with the switch status of the BG disk brake. This indicates that the solenoid valve's electrical circuit is open. The machine will experience limited or no function of the transmission until the error is corrected.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 6230
  • 6330
  • 6430
  • 6020 series
  • 6030 series
  • 7020 series
  • 7030 series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring circuit for any open connections, breaks, or chafed wires leading to the BG solenoid valve.

  2. Examine all wiring harnesses and connectors associated with the disk brake solenoid valve for signs of corrosion, damage, or loose pins.

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the current flow and resistance at the solenoid valve. Compare the readings against the OEM specifications to determine if the internal coil is open.

  4. Verify that the solenoid valve circuit is properly grounded, as a bad ground can cause low current flow.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the BG Solenoid Valve for the Disk Brake on the IVT transmission valve block.

  3. Disconnect and Inspect

Unplug the electrical connector to the BG solenoid. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and check for pushed-out pins.

  4. Harness Continuity Test

Probe the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the PTA/TCU module to rule out a broken wire in the harness.

  5. Replace the Solenoid

If the wiring harness has good continuity and proper grounding, but the solenoid fails the multimeter resistance/current test (indicating an open internal coil), the solenoid valve must be replaced.

  6. Reassembly and Clearing Codes

Install the new solenoid valve, reconnect the wiring harness, and clear the stored 524153.05 fault code via the tractor's diagnostic monitor or John Deere Service Advisor.

  7. Test Drive

Operate the tractor to ensure full transmission functionality has returned and the code does not reset.
