John Deere 524157.02 – OIC: Right Brake Pedal, Malfunction

The contacts of the brake pedal switch/sensor are reading as both at the switched position or both at the unswitched position simultaneously. This illogical state typically points to a defective switch, a loose connection, or a short in the circuit.

   Inspect the right brake pedal position sensor and its wiring harness for signs of physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to test the voltage levels at the right brake pedal sensor connector. Ensure the voltage changes smoothly as the pedal is depressed and released.

   Inspect for any short circuits to ground or open circuits along the wiring of the right brake pedal sensor.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the right brake pedal position sensor assembly, which is mounted on the brake pedal linkage inside the cab.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the sensor.

   Remove

   Remove the mounting hardware securing the sensor to the pedal assembly and remove the faulty sensor.

   Install

   Mount the new OEM brake pedal position sensor and secure it with the hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor.

   Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery and calibrate the sensor via the tractor's diagnostic monitor (associated codes like OIC 003032.13 may appear until this is done).

   Clear and Test

   Clear the OIC 524157.02 fault code and test the brake pedal operation to ensure the code does not return.
