Check the cause
Inspect the right brake pedal assembly to ensure it is not physically sticking due to debris or lack of lubrication, and ensure it returns fully to the resting position.
Locate the right brake pedal position sensor under the cab console, disconnect the harness, and check for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion.
Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving a steady 5V reference and a solid ground from the CCU. Check the signal wire for continuity back to the CCU harness to rule out an open circuit or a short-to-ground.
Attempt a brake pedal calibration via the tractor's CommandCenter/display monitor, as the sensor may have simply fallen out of its calibrated voltage range.
Repair steps
Prepare tractor for service
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery ground.
Remove dash panels
Remove the lower dash/console panels as necessary to gain access to the brake pedal pivot bracket.
Locate sensor
Locate the right brake pedal position sensor (a rotary potentiometer attached to the pedal pivot).
Disconnect sensor
Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove old sensor
Remove the mounting screws/bolts securing the sensor to the pedal bracket and slide the old sensor off the pivot shaft.
Install new sensor
Install the new sensor in the exact same orientation. Secure it with the mounting hardware.
Reconnect harness and panels
Reconnect the electrical harness and reinstall any removed cab panels.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position.
Perform calibration
Perform a brake pedal calibration using the tractor's diagnostic display so the CCU can learn the minimum and maximum voltage sweep of the new sensor (navigate to the CCU calibration menu, fully depress the pedal, and press the CLEAR/STORE button to save the values).
Clear fault code and test
Clear the stored 524157.31 fault code and test drive the tractor to verify the brakes operate correctly and the code does not return.
