John Deere 524162.09 – CLC, BRC, or CCU: Brake Switch Message Missing / Left Brake Pedal Communication Failure
Issue description

Check the cause
Perform a system reset by placing the tractor in park, shutting off the engine, and restarting to verify if the code clears
Look for accompanying active CAN bus communication codes (such as ICU 002255.09) that might indicate a broader network issue
Check the B88 sensor unit (brake pedal potentiometer) for proper operation and accurate signal output
Inspect all wiring and connectors related to the brake pedal sensor unit for security, damage, chafing, or corrosion
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and remove the key to ensure the CAN bus network is powered down.
Access the Pedal Assembly
Locate the left brake pedal position switch/potentiometer (often referred to as the B88 sensor unit) at the base of the brake pedal assembly inside the cab.
Inspect the Harness
Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch. Inspect the pins on both the connector and the switch for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.
Test/Replace the Switch
If the wiring is intact but the switch is failing to send the correct voltage/signal (or is physically damaged), remove the mounting hardware and replace the left brake pedal switch/potentiometer.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Install the new switch, reconnect the harness, and start the tractor. Acknowledge and clear the codes on the CommandCenter display. Test the brake pedal to ensure the fault does not return and that the system registers the pedal movement.
