524167.19

John Deere 524167.19 – CSC or TCU: Incorrect CAN Bus Message, Transmission

Issue description

Triggered when there is a discrepancy between the actual and commanded transmission speeds, or when the User Interface Controller (UIC) / Transmission Module (PTA) is unable to determine the desired transmission ratio (DTRR), resulting in a missing or incorrect message fault on the CAN BUS.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 8225R
  • 8245R
  • 8270R
  • 8295R
  • 8320R
  • 8335R
  • 8345R
  • 8370R
  • 8400R
  • 6230
  • 6330
  • 6430

Check the cause

  1. Check for related active PTI, PTP, or PTQ (Transmission) codes first, as they usually point to the root hardware issue

  2. Verify the integrity of the CAN bus lines between the PTA/UIC and the TCU/CSC

  3. Examine the wiring harnesses connected to the transmission control units and sensors (such as the clutch potentiometer and speed sensors) for signs of damage, chafing, disconnection, or wear

  4. Use a diagnostic tool (like Service ADVISOR) to read live values of the transmission input/output speed sensors and clutch potentiometers to ensure they are transmitting correctly

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery before servicing electrical components.

  2. Clean and Secure Connectors

Disconnect the harnesses at the PTA/UIC and TCU modules. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals. Clean with contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting securely.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic tests reveal high resistance or an open circuit on the CAN bus lines, repair or replace the affected section of the transmission wiring harness.

  4. Replace Defective Sensors/Modules

If a specific sensor (e.g., clutch potentiometer) or the PTA/UIC module itself fails the diagnostic bench test, remove and replace the faulty component.

  5. Software Update and Calibration

Ensure the control software for the transmission modules is up-to-date. After replacing any transmission components or modules, perform the necessary transmission calibrations via the diagnostic tool to ensure accurate signal processing.

  6. Functional Test

Clear the fault codes, start the tractor, and conduct a comprehensive test drive to confirm that the desired transmission ratio is correctly transmitted and the code does not return.
