524167.19

John Deere 524167.19 – TCU (Transmission Control Unit) or CSC (Cab Suspension Control Unit / Chassis System Controller): Incorrect CAN BUS Message, Desired Transmission Ratio from UIC

Issue description

This diagnostic trouble code is generated when the receiving control unit is unable to determine the desired transmission ratio (DTRR) because the UIC (User Interface Controller) is failing to broadcast this required data over the CAN BUS network. Because the transmission ratio data is missing, the system may substitute a default replacement value, resulting in limited transmission or vehicle functionality.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Check for any active primary codes logged directly against the UIC or general CAN BUS communication errors and resolve those first.

  2. Verify the integrity of the CAN BUS wiring between the UIC and the TCU/CSC, looking for chafed wires, rodent damage, or pinched harnesses.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness connectors at the UIC for loose pins, moisture intrusion, or corrosion.

  4. Verify the UIC is receiving proper unswitched and switched voltage (power and ground), as a voltage drop will cause the module to drop off the CAN network.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery before servicing the modules to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Harness Repair

If diagnostic testing reveals high resistance or an open circuit on the CAN High or CAN Low lines between the UIC and TCU, repair the wiring harness using John Deere approved splice kits.

  3. Clean Connections

Disconnect the UIC and TCU/CSC connectors. Clean them with electronic contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting.

  4. Module Replacement

If the wiring and power/ground circuits test perfectly but the UIC is still failing to broadcast the transmission ratio, the UIC module has internally failed and must be replaced.

  5. Software Calibration

If the UIC is replaced, the new module must be flashed with the correct machine software and calibrated using John Deere Service ADVISOR.

  6. Clear and Test

Clear the stored 524167.19 code and perform a functional test drive to ensure the transmission shifts correctly and the code does not return.
