John Deere 524173.02 – PTR / CAB / EPC / PTP / TID: Clutch Pedal Compare Error / Clutch Pedal Sensor Voltage Conflict
Issue description
The control unit has detected a mismatch between the output signals of the clutch pedal potentiometer (sensor B65). The system requires that the voltage at Channel 1 (lead 6114) must be exactly double the voltage of Channel 2 (lead 6007). When this ratio is incorrect, the code is triggered, and the control unit may disable clutch functionality to prevent unsafe operation.

Check the cause
Inspect the clutch pedal potentiometer (B65) for physical damage, misalignment, or obvious malfunction.
Verify Voltage Ratios: Use a multimeter or diagnostic tool to measure the voltages at Channel 1 (lead 6114) and Channel 2 (lead 6007) of the clutch pedal potentiometer. Confirm whether the voltage at Channel 1 is double the voltage at Channel 2.
Inspect Wiring and Connections: Check all wiring and connectors related to the clutch pedal position sensor. Look for loose connections, corrosion, short circuits, or open circuits that could be skewing the voltage readings.
Check Software: Ensure that the control unit (PTR/CAB/EPC) software is up-to-date, applying any available manufacturer patches.
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wiring, corroded pins, or a short circuit in the harness leading to the B65 sensor, repair or replace the affected wiring.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact and the voltage ratio remains inconsistent, the clutch pedal potentiometer (B65) has failed internally and must be replaced.
Reset and Test
After addressing the wiring or replacing the sensor, clear the diagnostic trouble codes from the system.
Monitor Operation
Test the clutch pedal operation during use to ensure the sensor provides accurate, consistent readings and that the 524173.02 code does not return.
Parts you might need
(2)Clutch Pedal Potentiometer (Sensor B65)
56633These part numbers are highly common across the 5E, 5M, 6M, 6R, 6030, and 7030 series tractors. However, always verify the exact part number against the specific tractor's serial number in the John Deere parts catalog, as fitment can vary slightly by generation and cab configuration.
