John Deere 524173.03 – CAB, EPC, TCU, or OIC: Clutch Pedal Sensor Circuit Voltage High

The control unit has measured a voltage exceeding the normal operating range (typically more than 4.7 or 4.8 volts) at the signal input from channel 1 of the clutch pedal potentiometer. This condition indicates a problem with the signal lead, a faulty sensor, or a bad ground connection at the potentiometer. As a result, the control software may function in a limited capacity or not at all, affecting the operation of the clutch pedal.

   Inspect the clutch pedal potentiometer (B65) for signs of physical damage, moisture intrusion, or defect.

   Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the signal input of channel 1 (e.g., lead 6114). Ensure it remains under 4.7V. If it is too high, investigate the 5V reference power source for shorts to power.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the ground connection for the clutch pedal potentiometer. Look for any signs of pinched wires, loose connector pins, or corrosion.

   Ensure that the control software is updated to the latest version, as firmware updates can sometimes improve the handling of potentiometer signals.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring, a short to power on the signal wire, or a poor ground connection, repair or replace the affected wiring harness section.

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring and grounds test perfectly but the voltage output remains out of range, the internal track of the potentiometer has likely failed. Remove the mounting hardware securing the clutch pedal potentiometer to the pedal assembly and install a new OEM sensor.

   Reconnect the sensor harness and battery.

   Clear Codes

   Turn the key switch to the RUN position and clear the stored diagnostic trouble codes. Restart the engine to verify if the active code reappears. (Note: Some models may require a clutch pedal calibration procedure via Service ADVISOR after sensor replacement).
