John Deere 524173.03 – PTQ, CAB, EPC, TCU, or OIC: Clutch Pedal Potentiometer, Channel 1, Voltage Too High

Triggered when the control unit measures a signal voltage exceeding 4.7 to 4.8 volts at the signal input from channel 1 of the clutch pedal potentiometer (sensor B65). This condition typically indicates a problem with the signal lead (such as a short to power) or a broken/open ground connection at the potentiometer.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the clutch pedal potentiometer (B65) for frayed wires, loose pins, or corrosion.

   Test the potentiometer's ground connection, as a high voltage code (above 4.7V) often points to a loss of ground.

   Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at channel 1 of the potentiometer (lead 6114). If the wiring is intact and ground is good, but the sensor outputs a constant 5V, the sensor has failed internally.

   For dual-channel sensors, verify that the voltage at channel 1 is double the voltage of channel 2 (lead 6007). A mismatch will trigger related codes.

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate the clutch pedal potentiometer attached to the clutch pedal linkage inside the cab.

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor.

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken ground or shorted signal wire, repair the wiring harness.

   If the wiring is healthy, remove the mounting hardware securing the faulty potentiometer and remove it from the linkage.

   Install the replacement OEM clutch pedal potentiometer and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key switch to the RUN position. Perform a clutch pedal calibration procedure via the tractor's CommandCenter display or using John Deere Service ADVISOR so the control unit can learn the new sensor's minimum and maximum voltage sweeps.

   Restart the tractor and verify that the fault code has cleared and the transmission engages properly.
