John Deere 524173.16 – PTR (Power Train Reverser): Main Control Module Has Noted An Issue With The Signals From The Clutch Pedal Position Sensor
Issue description
The system has detected a "Both Clutch Pedals Voltage High" or "Clutch Pedal Sensor Out Of High Normal Range" condition. This code is triggered when the control unit detects that the clutch pedal position sensor circuit A voltage is above 4.7 V and circuit B voltage is above 2.35 V for at least one second.

Check the cause
Inspect the clutch pedal position sensor (potentiometer) for physical damage, misalignment, or obvious malfunction.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors related to the clutch pedal position sensor. Ensure all connections are secure and free from corrosion, moisture, or damage. Look specifically for a short circuit to a power source, which would cause the "Voltage High" condition.
Use a multimeter to test the sensor circuitry for proper functionality and resistance values. Verify that the sensor reference voltage is within the normal range.
Verify that the PTR control unit is functioning correctly and check if any other diagnostic trouble codes are present.
Ensure that the PTR control unit software is up-to-date with the latest manufacturer patches.
Repair steps
Locate the Sensor
Find the clutch pedal position sensor, which is typically mounted directly on or near the clutch pedal assembly linkage inside the cab.
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Remove the Faulty Sensor
Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws/bolts holding the sensor to the pedal bracket.
Install the New Sensor
Mount the new rotary position sensor in the exact orientation as the old one. Secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect Wiring
Plug the wiring harness back into the new sensor.
Calibrate and Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and clear the stored fault codes. Depress the clutch pedal a few times to allow the PTR module to recognize the sweep of the new sensor. Start the tractor and test the PowrReverser/transmission engagement to ensure smooth shifting and that the code does not return.
