John Deere 524173.18 – PTR, TIQ / TIP, PTP: Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Signal Issue
Issue description
The control module detects that the clutch pedal position sensor circuit A voltage has dropped below 0.03 V and circuit B voltage has dropped below 0.015 V for a specified duration, or the clutch is only partially engaged while attempting to shift into higher gears.

Check the cause
Verify operator operation: Ensure the operator is fully depressing the clutch pedal when attempting to shift into higher gears (e.g., above 13th gear).
Inspect the physical clutch pedal mechanism for proper movement, signs of obstruction, or wear. Ensure the plastic linkage/lever connecting the pedal to the potentiometer is intact and has not worked its way off.
Inspect the clutch pedal position sensor for physical damage, misalignment, or malfunction.
Check the wiring harness and connectors related to the clutch pedal position sensor for loose connections, corrosion, damage, or short circuits.
Test the sensor circuitry using a multimeter to verify there are no short or open circuits causing low voltage readings on Circuit A and Circuit B.
Check that the PTR control unit software is up-to-date with the latest manufacturer patches.
Repair steps
Clear Obstructions
If the pedal mechanism is binding, clean, lubricate, or repair the mechanical linkage to ensure full travel.
Repair Wiring
If circuit testing reveals an open or short circuit, repair or replace the damaged sections of the wiring harness.
Replace Sensor
If the wiring is intact but the sensor fails to provide accurate resistance/voltage values, replace the clutch pedal position sensor.
Reassemble and Calibrate
Install the new sensor, ensuring it is properly aligned with the pedal linkage.
Test Operation
Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (often by cycling the key switch or tractor power). Monitor the clutch pedal position sensor operation during use to ensure it provides accurate and consistent readings to the control module.
