524175.19

John Deere 524175.19 – Transmission Module IVT (PTA) or Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Incorrect CAN BUS Message, Transmission Output Speed from PLC

Issue description

The PLC (Rear Chassis Module) or TIA control unit is unable to determine the frequency of the transmission output speed via the B84 Wheel Speed Sensor. Because the module cannot read the speed, it cannot provide the CAN BUS with the relevant data. A transmitted replacement (default) value is sent over the CAN BUS instead.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 6230
  • 6330
  • 6430

Check the cause

  1. Check for Priority PLC Codes (such as PLC 328012.31 or TCU 524109.10) indicating a direct fault with the B84 sensor

  2. Inspect the B84 Wheel Speed Sensor to verify it is physically intact and properly aligned

  3. Examine wiring and connectors associated with the B84 wheel speed sensor and the CAN BUS system for damage, corrosion, or disconnection

  4. Verify CAN BUS communication is transmitting accurate data from the PLC control unit to the TCU/PTA without interruptions

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Equipment

Scan the tractor to check for related PLC codes regarding the B84 wheel speed sensor.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Find the B84 wheel speed sensor (transmission output speed sensor) on the transmission housing.

  3. Visual Inspection

Inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the B84 sensor for physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion.

  4. Electrical Testing

Use a multimeter to test the sensor circuit. Check for shorts to a supply lead, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

  5. Test Sensor Output

If the wiring is intact, use diagnostic tools to measure the frequency output of the B84 sensor. If it provides erratic or no readings, the sensor has failed internally.

  6. Replace the Sensor

If the sensor fails testing, replace the B84 wheel speed sensor.

  7. Check CAN BUS Lines

If the sensor and wiring are good, check the CAN BUS lines between the PLC and TCU/PTA for continuity and proper voltage. Repair or replace any faulty wiring or connectors.

  8. Software Update

Ensure the PLC and TCU/PTA software are up-to-date to prevent communication mismatch issues.

  9. Clear and Test

Clear the codes and test drive the tractor to verify the transmission output speed is being read correctly and the code does not return.
