John Deere 524182.19 – PTA (Powertrain / Transmission Module IVT) or TCU (Transmission Control Unit): Missing Info On The CAN BUS, Transmission Module IVT (PTA) / Incorrect CAN BUS Message, Transmission Shift Monitor from TIA Control Software / UIC
Issue description
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated when the TIA (Tractor Implement Automation) or UIC (User Interface Controller) control software is unable to determine the value for the transmission shift monitor (RSL). Because it cannot determine this value, it cannot provide the CAN BUS with the relevant data. A transmitted replacement value is sent instead, which triggers this code.

Check the cause
Inspect TIA / UIC Control Software: Verify that the TIA or UIC control software is functioning correctly and is properly synchronized.
Check CAN BUS Communication: Ensure that the CAN BUS communication network between the TIA/UIC and the PTA/TCU is intact.
Examine Wiring and Connectors: Inspect all wiring and connectors associated with the CAN BUS for signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
Verify Transmission Shift Monitor Inputs: Check the physical inputs that feed the transmission shift monitor, such as the reverse drive lever or AutoPowr selector, for proper operation.
Repair steps
Visual Inspection
Locate the CAN BUS wiring harness connecting the User Interface Controller (UIC) / TIA module to the Transmission Control Unit (PTA/TCU).
Harness Repair
Check for any pinched wires, corrosion in the pins, or loose connectors. Repair or replace any damaged wiring or connectors to restore proper electrical communication.
Software Update
If the wiring is intact, check the software versions of the TIA/UIC and PTA/TCU. Reinstall or update the control software to the latest manufacturer versions to ensure they are correctly synchronized.
Component Testing
If the code persists, test the transmission shift monitor components (like the reverse drive lever switches) to ensure they are sending the correct signals to the UIC. Replace faulty switches if they are not registering.
Clear and Test
Clear the diagnostic trouble codes and operate the tractor to monitor CAN BUS traffic and verify the code does not return. If the issue persists, the UIC or TIA module itself may require replacement.
Parts you might need
(3)User Interface Control Unit (UIC) / TIA Module
