524191.19

John Deere 524191.19 – CCU (Chassis Control Unit): CAN BUS Message Fault Rear Chassis (CCU) / Air Brake System Fault

Issue description

An incorrect or missing CAN bus message indicating a communication failure on the controller area network (CAN) where the expected data regarding the rear chassis/air brake system is not being received or transmitted properly.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 6090MC
  • 6090RC
  • 6100MC
  • 6100RC
  • 6110MC
  • 6110RC

Check the cause

  1. Check for associated active CAN bus codes (such as 524194.09 or 524218.09) to isolate if the entire CAN network is down or just a single module.

  2. Visually inspect the rear chassis CAN bus wiring harness and air brake system connectors for signs of chafing, corrosion, or disconnected pins.

  3. Test the CAN bus network resistance using a multimeter with the battery disconnected (a healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms across CAN High and CAN Low).

  4. Check the air brake system sensors and valves to ensure they are receiving proper voltage and are not shorting out the communication network.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Always disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing John Deere electrical systems.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks reveal a short or open circuit in the rear chassis harness, repair the damaged wires or replace the affected harness section. Clean any corroded connector pins with electrical contact cleaner.

  3. Replace Faulty Sensors/Valves

If an air brake system component is found to be internally shorted and pulling down the CAN network, replace the specific component.

  4. Replace the CCU (If Necessary)

If the wiring and sensors are intact but the CCU fails to send/receive messages, the Chassis Control Unit itself must be replaced.

  5. Calibrate and Clear

If a new CCU is installed, it will require a 'Chassis Control Unit (CCU) Configuration and Calibration' procedure using John Deere Service ADVISOR. Clear the fault codes and test-drive the tractor to ensure the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(7)
  • Chassis Control Unit (CCU) Module

    RE170416

Identified as CCU 5.6 Module for various John Deere agricultural machinery. CCU modules are highly specific to the tractor's model year, transmission type, and installed options (like air brakes). Verify exact part number against tractor's serial number. New CCUs require dealer programming/calibration.

  • Chassis Control Unit (CCU) Module

    AL206359

CCU fitment for 7R and 8R series tractors. CCU modules are highly specific to the tractor's model year, transmission type, and installed options (like air brakes). Verify exact part number against tractor's serial number. New CCUs require dealer programming/calibration.

  • Chassis Control Unit (CCU) Module

    RE70916

Legacy/Alternative CCU Part Number. CCU modules are highly specific to the tractor's model year, transmission type, and installed options (like air brakes). Verify exact part number against tractor's serial number. New CCUs require dealer programming/calibration.

  • Chassis Control Unit (CCU) Module

    RE150595

Legacy/Alternative CCU Part Number. CCU modules are highly specific to the tractor's model year, transmission type, and installed options (like air brakes). Verify exact part number against tractor's serial number. New CCUs require dealer programming/calibration.

  • Chassis Control Unit (CCU) Module

    RE168573

Legacy/Alternative CCU Part Number. CCU modules are highly specific to the tractor's model year, transmission type, and installed options (like air brakes). Verify exact part number against tractor's serial number. New CCUs require dealer programming/calibration.
