   Cycle the power by restarting the tractor to see if the temporary CAN bus communication glitch clears.

   Inspect the fuse panel for blown fuses related to the CCU and the air brake system (if equipped).

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the CCU for chafing, rodent damage, or accumulated debris.

   Use a multimeter to test the CAN High and CAN Low lines for proper voltage and verify the integrity of the terminating resistors (typically 60 ohms across the network when powered down).

   Inspect the pneumatic sensors and valves of the air brake system for physical damage or disconnected plugs.

   Disconnect Battery

   Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before performing electrical repairs or unplugging modules.

   Repair Wiring/Connectors

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a short, open circuit, or corroded connector pins at the CCU or the air brake sensors, clean the pins with contact cleaner or splice/repair the damaged wiring harness.

   Replace the CCU

   If the wiring and CAN network are intact but the CCU fails to communicate, the module itself has likely failed internally. Locate the CCU, disconnect the multi-pin harness connectors, unbolt the module from its mounting bracket and install the new unit.

   Software Calibration

   A newly installed CCU requires a John Deere dealer or a technician with Service ADVISOR to flash the correct software payload to the module and calibrate it to the tractor's specific VIN and transmission options.
