John Deere 524212.04 – ACU: Rear Hitch Control Lever Sensor Circuit Voltage Low
Issue description
Voltage in the rear hitch control lever sensor circuit has dropped below the expected threshold (typically below 0.5V). As a safety reaction to prevent unsafe hitch operations due to unreliable sensor readings, the ACU will automatically disable the rear hitch system.

Check the cause
Restart the engine to verify if the active Diagnostic Trouble Code reappears
Check the rear hitch control lever sensor and its circuit for signs of electrical wear, damage, or degradation
Inspect all related wiring harnesses and electrical connectors between the ACU and the hitch control lever for signs of wear, corrosion, or looseness that could cause a voltage drop
Use a multimeter to verify the actual voltage levels at the sensor. Confirm that the signal voltage is indeed below normal operating standards (below 0.5V) to pinpoint the location of the voltage drop
Ensure that all power sources, such as batteries and alternators, are functioning properly and providing adequate supply voltage to the ACU and sensor circuits
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical circuits.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed wires, corroded pins, or loose connectors in the armrest harness, repair or replace the affected wiring segments.
Replace Sensor/Lever
If the wiring is intact and the sensor itself is internally shorted or failing to output the correct voltage, replace the Rear Hitch Control Lever / Sensor assembly.
Reassemble and Power Up
Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position.
Recalibrate
After making repairs or replacing the sensor, you must recalibrate the hitch control system via the CommandCenter display to ensure proper functionality and range of motion.
Clear Codes
Acknowledge and clear the diagnostic trouble code by pressing the select switch on the CommandCenter. Test the rear hitch operation to confirm the repair.
