John Deere 524212.11 – AIC: Rear Hitch Quick Raise/Lower switch signal voltage out of range

Issue description

The signal voltage from the Rear Hitch Quick Raise/Lower switch on the hand control unit is out of range. The system detects that the switch is continuously sending a signal, likely because it is physically jammed, stuck in a pressed position, or internally shorted.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Check the rear hitch quick raise/lower switch to see if it is physically jammed by debris or stuck in the pressed position.

  2. Manually set the switch back to the un-pressed (neutral) position.

  3. Turn the tractor's ignition off and back on (cycle power) to see if the system recovers and the code clears.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

  2. Locate the faulty rear hitch switch (these are typically located on the hand control unit/armrest or externally on the left and right rear fenders for 3-point hitch operation).

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the switch for any signs of chafing, corrosion, or broken wires that could cause an out-of-range voltage signal.

  4. If the wiring is intact, remove the faulty switch from its mounting bezel.

  5. Install the replacement switch and reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and test the raise/lower functionality of the rear hitch to ensure the fault code does not return.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Remote Control Switch for 3-Point Hitch (Rear Hitch Quick Raise/Lower Switch)

    AL180493

This switch features dual-sided accessibility (located on both left and right rear fenders) allowing the operator to raise and lower the 3-point hitch from behind the tractor to simplify implement hookup. It fits a wide variety of 6M, 6MC, and 6RC series tractors.
