524212.31

John Deere 524212.31 – HCC: Rear Hitch Lever Command Missing

Issue description

Rear Hitch Lever Position data is not being received through the CAN message network. This is typically caused by a communication breakdown within the CAN bus network, a wiring issue, or a direct fault in the rear hitch control lever circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the area around the batteries and the alternator for any signs of physical damage, loose connections, or accumulated debris that could cause voltage drops

  2. Inspect the fuses related to the ICU and communication systems (check fuses F30, F9, F6 for IVT transmissions, or F35 for PowrQuad)

  3. Restart the tractor's engine (soft reset) to see if the communication messages reset and clear the code

Repair steps

  1. Verify the Code

After performing the soft reset (restarting the tractor), check the CommandCenter display to see if the active Service Code 524212.31 reappears.

  2. Inspect the Harness

If the code returns, access the Rear Hitch Control Lever assembly. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors running between the lever and the HCC/HCU module for pinched wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

  3. Test the Lever/Sensor

Test the Rear Hitch Control Lever's potentiometer/sensor for proper voltage sweep and resistance according to your specific model's technical manual.

  4. Replace Faulty Components

If the wiring is intact but the lever is not sending a signal, replace the Rear Hitch Control Lever assembly.

  5. Dealer Intervention

If the harness and lever are functioning properly but the CAN bus message is still missing, the HCC/HCU module itself may require software flashing, recalibration, or replacement. Have a John Deere dealer perform the repair.
