Check the cause
Check for other OIC diagnostic trouble codes, as they take priority and may cause this communication fault
Physically inspect the rear PTO mud guard switches on the fenders for proper operation, physical damage, or sticking buttons
Inspect wiring harnesses and connectors associated with the rear PTO mud guard switches for damage, corrosion, or loose connections
Verify CAN bus communication using John Deere Service ADVISOR to ensure messages from the OIC/AIC are transmitted and received by the RPT
Repair steps
Resolve Priority Codes
Clear any higher-priority OIC codes that may be interrupting the CAN bus broadcast.
Repair Wiring
If diagnostic checks reveal damaged wires, corroded pins, or loose connectors between the fender switches and the cab module, repair or replace the affected wiring harness sections.
Replace Defective Switches
If the mud guard switch is found to be internally shorted, open, or mechanically defective, replace the switch.
Update Control Software
Ensure that both the OIC (or AIC) and RPT control software are updated to the latest versions. Install any available OEM patches or updates that specifically address CAN bus communication issues.
Clear and Test
Clear the fault codes from the system and test the rear PTO operation from both the cab and the fender switches to verify the repair.
