John Deere 524224.14 – CCU (Chassis Control Unit): Rear PTO Switch State Mismatch
Issue description
The control unit has detected a mismatch between the commanded state (ON or OFF) of the rear PTO switch and the actual input signal received. Most commonly, this code is triggered because the PTO switch was in the ON position (or a signal indicating it was ON was received) when the tractor was started.

Check the cause
Ensure the rear PTO switch is physically in the OFF position before starting the engine
Check for associated Armrest Control Unit (ACU) codes (especially CCU 001883.00, CCU 001883.01, or CCU 001883.13) and resolve them first
Inspect the rear PTO switch, associated preselectors, and external fender switches for sticking, damage, or inaccurate signals
Verify that the ACU and Cab Control Unit (CAB) are properly configured to prevent signal mismatches
Repair steps
System Reset
Turn all PTO switches to the OFF position.
Restart
Restart the vehicle.
Cycle the Switch
Cycle the PTO switch OFF and then ON to attempt a vehicle system recovery.
Circuit Testing
If the code returns after cycling the power and the switch, inspect the PTO switch circuit for a voltage mismatch, short, or open circuit.
Part Replacement
If the wiring harness is intact but the switch is providing an erratic or mismatched signal, replace the defective PTO switch.
Dealer Intervention
If corrective action cannot be taken after cycling power to the tractor, the system may require a John Deere dealer to recalibrate the CCU/ACU or replace the module.
