John Deere 524230.06 – PTQ: Proportional Solenoid Valve for Transmission Enable, Current Too High
Issue description
The control software has detected that the circuit current for the transmission enable proportional solenoid valve is excessively high. This typically indicates a short to ground within the circuit or a failed internal coil inside the solenoid. When this error is detected, the control software automatically shifts the transmission into neutral to prevent potential mechanical damage.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the transmission enable proportional solenoid valve (Y100). Look for rubbed-through wire insulation causing a short to ground, corrosion, or damaged connector pins.
Use a multimeter to measure the current and resistance at the solenoid valve's signal input. Compare the resistance of the coil against OEM specifications to determine if the solenoid is internally shorted.
Repair steps
Resolve Wiring Faults
If the diagnostic checks reveal a short to ground in the harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid fails the multimeter test (internal short causing high amperage), remove and replace the transmission enable proportional solenoid valve.
Re-test
Clear the fault codes via the monitor or Service ADVISOR. Start the tractor and test transmission engagement to ensure the code does not return and the transmission no longer drops into neutral.
