John Deere PTI524232.01 – PTI / PTP: Park Brake Pressure Low
Issue description
The transmission control unit (PTI) has detected low hydraulic pressure in the park brake circuit while a gear is commanded. The park brake on these tractors is spring-applied and hydraulically released. Insufficient hydraulic pressure prevents the brake from fully disengaging, prompting the controller to log this fault and potentially prevent gear engagement to protect the park brake components from damage.

Check the cause
Attempt a system reset by returning the shift lever to the 'Park' position and cycling the tractor's power (key switch off and on)
Visually inspect the hydraulic oil level to ensure it is not low
Inspect the transmission oil filter for restrictions or clogs that could impede hydraulic flow
Inspect and test the park brake pressure switch (located on the top left-hand rear side of the transmission) for correct operation
Test the park brake solenoid (located on the left side of the transmission) for resistance and electrical function. Consider swapping it with an identical solenoid (e.g., differential lock solenoid) to diagnose a failure
Perform a manual pressure test using a hand pump and pressure gauge connected to the transmission diagnostic port to verify if the brake releases
Repair steps
Perform initial operator actions and diagnostic checks
Perform the initial operator actions (returning shift lever to Park, cycling power) and diagnostic checks before replacing parts.
Top up hydraulic oil
If the hydraulic oil level is low, fill it to the correct level and inspect the system for leaks.
Replace transmission oil filter
If the transmission oil filter is suspected to be restricted or clogged, replace it to restore proper hydraulic flow.
Replace park brake pressure switch
If diagnostic testing identifies the park brake pressure switch as faulty, replace it along with its associated O-ring.
Replace park brake solenoid
If the park brake solenoid fails electrical testing or the swap test, replace the solenoid.
Inspect internal transmission components
If external components are functioning correctly and the issue persists, advanced diagnostics are required to check the transmission hydraulic pump, internal seals (such as MFWD clutch piston seals), or the transmission control unit (TCU).
