John Deere 524233.03 – PTA (Power Train AutoPowr™/IVT™) / TCU (Transmission Control Unit): Hydrostatic Speed Sensor, Voltage in Channel 1 Too High
Issue description
The control unit detects that the voltage at the signal input from Channel 1 of the hydrostatic speed sensor (B62, lead 6089) is excessively high. This condition typically indicates a supply voltage problem, an open circuit in the sensor wiring, or a short to a positive lead.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Locate the B62 Hydrostatic Speed Sensor on the transmission housing. Inspect the sensor housing and the electrical connector for physical damage, moisture intrusion, or pushed-out pins.
Wiring Harness Check: Trace the wiring harness (specifically lead 6089 for Channel 1) back to the PTA/TCU module. Look for chafed wires that may be shorting to a positive power source.
Continuity and Voltage Test: Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor circuit is not open. Check the supply voltage at the connector to ensure the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage and is not shorted to battery power.
Check for Related Codes: Look for accompanying codes such as 524233.04 (Voltage Too Low / Short to Ground) or 524233.08 (Frequency discrepancy between Channel 1 and Channel 2) which can help isolate whether the issue is a complete sensor failure or an intermittent wiring short.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the B62 Hydrostatic Speed Sensor on the IVT transmission housing.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor.
Remove the Sensor
Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from entering the transmission. Remove the retaining bolt(s) securing the sensor and carefully pull the sensor out of the transmission housing.
Install the New Sensor
Lubricate the O-ring on the new hydrostatic speed sensor with clean transmission oil. Insert the new sensor into the housing and torque the retaining bolt to OEM specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and use the tractor's diagnostic monitor to clear the stored PTA 524233.03 fault code. Start the tractor and perform a test drive to ensure the transmission shifts correctly and the code does not return.
