Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the MFWD switch off and back on again to attempt a system recovery, as the MFWD is likely stuck in the engaged position.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the MFWD drop gearbox solenoid for chafed wires that might be shorting to a power source.

  3. Disconnect the MFWD solenoid connector and check for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins.

  4. Test the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to see if it is out of specification (shorted internally) and probe the harness to verify if voltage is bleeding into the signal wire.

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

    Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

    Locate the MFWD clutch solenoid valve, typically mounted on the MFWD drop gearbox/front axle output housing.

  3. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the solenoid mounting area and surrounding surfaces with a degreaser. It is critical to ensure the area is free from dirt and debris so contaminants do not enter the hydraulic system when the valve is removed.

  4. Disconnect Wiring

    Carefully depress the locking tab and disconnect the wiring harness from the solenoid, taking care not to break the plastic connector.

  5. Remove the Valve

    Remove the retaining hardware holding the solenoid valve in place and pull the valve cartridge out of the manifold/gearbox.

  6. Install the New Part

    Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert it into the housing and torque the retaining nut/bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reassembly

    Reconnect the wiring harness, reconnect the battery, and start the machine. Cycle the MFWD switch to verify the code has cleared and the front-wheel drive engages/disengages properly.
