John Deere 524235.05 – CCU: MFWD Solenoid Circuit Fault
Issue description
The control unit detects a malfunction in the Mechanical Front-Wheel Drive (MFWD) solenoid driver or circuit. The system logs this fault specifically when the MFWD is disengaged and detects an open circuit, a short circuit, or an over-temperature condition.

Check the cause
Restart the engine to verify if the active Service Code reappears (system reset)
Visually inspect the MFWD solenoid for any signs of physical damage, wear, or overheating
Inspect the wiring harness connected to the MFWD solenoid for open circuits, shorts, or physical damage/chafing
Use a multimeter to check for proper voltage and continuity in the MFWD solenoid circuit, ensuring no voltage drops
Verify that the solenoid is not experiencing over-temperature conditions caused by excessive load or insufficient cooling
Repair steps
Turn off all PTO and MFWD switches, then restart the vehicle to see if the code clears.
If the code remains active, locate the MFWD solenoid valve assembly on the transmission/drive system.
Disconnect the MFWD solenoid wiring harness and inspect the connector pins for corrosion or damage.
Test the electrical connections with a multimeter. If the wiring harness is damaged or shorted, replace the harness.
Test the resistance of the MFWD electrical coil. If it tests out of specification (open or shorted) or shows signs of overheating, replace the solenoid coil or the entire solenoid valve assembly.
After making the necessary repairs or replacements, restart the tractor to reset the CCU and monitor the MFWD system to ensure the fault does not reoccur.
If the code persists after replacing the solenoid and verifying the harness, contact a John Deere dealer for advanced CCU diagnostics.
