524252.14

John Deere 524252.14 – RPT (Rear PTO) Control Software / Rear Chassis Control Unit: Rear PTO Solenoid Valve, Voltage Too High

Issue description

The RPT control software detects that the voltage in the positive lead of the rear PTO solenoid valve is above 16 Volts, indicating a short circuit to a higher voltage source. When this error is detected, the functionality of the rear PTO is typically significantly limited or entirely non-functional.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the rear PTO solenoid valve for signs of damage, corrosion, or chafing that could cause a short circuit to a higher voltage source.

  2. Use a multimeter or diagnostic tool to measure the voltage at the positive lead of the rear PTO solenoid valve to verify if the voltage is spiking above 16V when the tractor is running or the PTO is activated.

  3. Test the solenoid directly for proper operation and internal resistance to ensure it hasn't failed internally due to the voltage spike.

Repair steps

  1. Repair Wiring

If a short to a higher voltage source is found in the harness, repair or replace the damaged wires and connectors. Ensure all connections are clean and secure.

  2. Replace the Solenoid

If the wiring is intact but the solenoid itself is faulty or shorted internally, replace the rear PTO solenoid valve.

  3. Update Control Software

Ensure that the RPT control software is updated to the latest version via John Deere Service ADVISOR, applying any available patches that address voltage/current regulation issues.

  4. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the diagnostic trouble codes and test the rear PTO engagement to ensure the voltage remains within the specified range and the PTO operates smoothly.
