John Deere 524254.02 – PTQ, PTP, TIA / PTD, ACU, UIC: Transmission Enable Circuit Fault
Issue description
The control software has detected a voltage or signal problem in the circuit of the transmission enable relay. This typically points to a defective relay, a problem with the ground circuit, a short/open in the control lead circuit, or an internal failure within the transmission control module itself. When this error is detected, the control software may limit or disable transmission functions to protect the machine.

Check the cause
Attempt Vehicle Recovery: Place the left-hand reverser lever into the Park or Neutral position. Restart the vehicle to see if the code clears or returns.
Check the 'Come Home' Fuse (F5): On many 7000-series models, verify that there is NOT a fuse installed in the F5 slot. A fuse should only be installed here if the vehicle is intentionally put into 'Come Home' mode. If a fuse is present during normal operation, it will trigger this circuit fault.
Inspect the Transmission Enable Relay: Locate the Transmission Enable Relay (K17, K06/03, or K02/03) in the main fuse and relay load center. Swap it with a known good relay of the same type (e.g., the HVAC or Work Light relay) to see if the fault follows the relay.
Inspect Wiring and Grounds: Check the ground circuit and the control lead circuit associated with the transmission enable relay for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
Check Load Center Fuses: Inspect the fuses related to the transmission and EH/ELX controllers (often F19, F20, or F21 depending on the model) for blown filaments.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and remove the key.
Access the Load Center
Remove the cover to the main fuse and relay load center (location varies by cab design, often under the right-hand console or behind the seat).
Replace the Relay
If diagnostic checks proved the Transmission Enable Relay (K17, K06/03, or K02/03) is defective, replace it with a new OEM relay.
Repair Wiring
If the relay is good but the circuit is open, trace the wiring harness from the load center to the PTQ module. Repair any chafed wires or replace corroded connector pins.
Module Replacement/Update
If the relay and wiring are perfectly intact, the fault is likely an internal failure of the PTQ (PowrQuad Transmission Control Unit). The module will need to be flashed with updated control software or physically replaced and calibrated by a certified John Deere dealer.
