Check the cause

  1. Verify the Engagement Sequence: Ensure the operator is turning on the rear PTO preselector switch first, the main cab rear PTO switch second, and then the rear PTO external (fender) switch third.

  2. Clear the Code: Place the tractor in park or shut off the engine, then restart to verify if the active Service Code reappears.

  3. Acknowledge the Alert: On tractors equipped with a CommandCenter, press the select switch to acknowledge and clear the display.

  4. Inspect Switch Functionality: If the correct sequence is followed and the PTO still does not engage, inspect both the main cab PTO switch and the external fender switch for physical damage, sticking contacts, or wiring harness shorts.

Repair steps

  1. Operator Training

If the code was triggered by pressing the fender switch while the cab switch was off, instruct the operator on the correct 3-step engagement sequence. No repair is necessary.

  2. Test the Switches

If the code persists without operator input, use a multimeter to test the continuity of the external fender switch and the main cab push-pull switch. A switch that is internally shorted to the 'ON' position will constantly send an enable request to the CCU.

  3. Replace Faulty Switch

If the external fender switch is faulty, disconnect the wiring harness from the rear fender, pop the switch out of its mounting bezel, and snap the new switch into place. If the main cab switch is faulty, remove the side console trim, disconnect the multi-pin connector, and replace the push-pull switch.

  4. System Verification

Restart the tractor and test the rear PTO system by following the correct switch engagement sequence to ensure proper operation and that the CCU code has cleared.
