John Deere 524259 – VLC, CLC, or RLC: Control Unit Temperature Too High
Issue description
The internal circuit board temperature has exceeded 115°C / 239°F for more than 2 seconds. The system logs this code to protect the module from thermal damage.

Check the cause
Cycle Power: Turn off the key switch, wait, and cycle the tractor power to see if the code clears.
Reduce Electrical Load: Turn off non-essential electrical loads (e.g., heavy work lights, wipers, HVAC blowers) to see if the module cools down and the code downgrades to a less severe state (like 524259.15 or 524259.16).
Physical Temperature Check: Safely access the flagged module (VLC, CLC, or RLC) and check if it is physically hot to the touch.
Internal Failure Verification: If the module is completely cool to the touch but the 524259.00 code remains active, the module has suffered an internal circuit board failure (false temperature reading) and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Cool Down
Switch off the engine and allow the control unit time to cool down. Restart the engine to attempt vehicle recovery.
Disconnect Power
If the code persists and the module is deemed internally faulty, disconnect the machine's battery power before servicing.
Locate the Module
Locate the specific module flagged by the prefix (e.g., the Cab Load Center is typically located inside the cab console/headliner area, while the Vehicle Load Center is mounted on the rear chassis).
Remove the Module
Carefully disconnect the multi-pin wiring harnesses from the module. Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.
Install the Replacement
Mount the new load center module and securely reconnect all wiring harnesses.
Dealer Programming
Because these are CAN-bus communication modules, a John Deere dealer may need to program or calibrate the new module using Service ADVISOR to ensure it communicates properly with the rest of the tractor's network.
