Check the cause

  2. Verify DEF Quality and Level: Use a DEF refractometer to ensure the fluid in the tank is exactly 32.5% urea. Check for water, dirt, or diesel fuel contamination in the DEF tank.

  3. Inspect the DEF Header and Wiring: Check the DEF tank header (which houses the level, temperature, and quality sensors) and its wiring harness for corrosion, crystallization, or physical damage.

  4. Check the DEF Dosing Pump: Inspect the DEF pump and inline filters for clogs caused by crystallized urea.

  1. Address the Root Cause

    Repair or replace the component flagged by the accompanying fault codes (e.g., replace a faulty DEF header sensor, replace a clogged DEF pump filter, or repair a broken wiring harness).

  2. Flush the DEF System (If Contaminated)
