Issue description
Informational fault code notifying the operator that the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions system has an active fault, warning how much time remains before the machine reaches its final engine derate state.

Check the cause
Connect a diagnostic tool (like John Deere Service ADVISOR) and pull all active ECU codes to identify the root-cause emissions fault (e.g., DEF Dosing Unit, DOC, or NOx sensors)
Verify that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank is adequately filled and that the fluid is high-quality and uncontaminated
Check the operator manual for specific timelines regarding the SCR derate stages for your exact machine to know how much operating time remains before final derate
Repair steps
Address the Root Fault
Perform the specific repair dictated by the primary SCR/DEF fault code found during your diagnostic check (e.g., replacing a failed NOx sensor, unclogging a DEF dosing pump, or forcing a DPF regeneration).
Refill DEF
If the derate was caused by low or poor-quality DEF, drain the tank (if contaminated) and refill it with fresh, high-quality DEF.
Reset the ECU
Once the mechanical or chemical issue is resolved, use the diagnostic tool to clear the codes and reset the ECU. This will clear the 005246.16 notification.
Monitor the System
Run the machine under load to ensure the SCR system is functioning correctly and the derate countdown does not return.
