John Deere 525.07 – TIQ: Wheel Speed Sensor Fault

Issue description

The control software has detected that the error rate of the received CAN Bus data points from the wheel speed sensor is too high. Because the controller cannot verify the true speed of the wheels, the transmission software restricts the number of gears that can be shifted (often resulting in an "Undefined Gear" or "Limited gear selection" state) to prevent damage and ensure safe operation.

Check the cause

  2. Visually inspect the wheel speed sensor for physical damage, heavy debris buildup, or misalignment

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the wheel speed sensor to the TIQ module for chafed wires, shorts to ground, or open circuits

  4. Check the CAN Bus connections (including implement/attachment connections) for corrosion or loose pins

Repair steps

  1. Safely Park the Machine

    Bring the machine to a stop, place the shift lever in the "Park" position, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the wheel speed sensor on the transmission housing or axle (location varies by specific model).

  3. Disconnect and Clean

    Disconnect the sensor's electrical harness. Clean the connector pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

  4. Test Continuity

    Use a multimeter to test the continuity of the wiring harness between the sensor connector and the TIQ module. Repair any broken wires.

  5. Replace the Sensor

    If the wiring and CAN Bus network are intact but the fault persists after a power cycle, the sensor itself has failed internally. Unbolt the faulty wheel speed sensor, install the replacement, and torque to OEM specifications.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

    Turn the key switch on, clear the diagnostic trouble codes via the CommandCenter display or a diagnostic tool (like Service Advisor), and test drive the machine to ensure full gear selection is restored.
