Issue description

Check the cause

  2. Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness between the CCU and the Rear Differential Lock Solenoid (often designated as component Y502 or Y666) for continuity, resistance, and verify there are no shorts to ground or shorts to power in the harness.

  3. Unplug the rear differential lock solenoid and measure the resistance across its pins. If the resistance is out of specification, the solenoid is the culprit.

  4. Inspect the solenoid pigtail and the main harness connectors for corrosion, pushed pins, or water ingress, which can cause high-current faults.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

    Locate the Rear Differential Lock Solenoid. On most 8R and 9R tractors, this is located on the multifunction hydraulic manifold block on the rear chassis/axle housing.

  3. Harness Repair

    If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of the wire and replace any corroded connector housings or pins.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

    If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test: Clean the area around the solenoid valve on the manifold, disconnect the electrical connector, unthread the retaining nut and remove the faulty solenoid coil (or the entire cartridge valve), install the new solenoid/valve, torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the wiring harness.

  5. System Reset and Verification

    Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and clear the CCU fault codes. Engage and disengage the rear differential lock to verify that the solenoid activates correctly and the code does not return.
