Check the cause

  1. Cycle the key switch (power down completely, wait a few moments, and restart the engine) to see if the module recovers from a temporary glitch and the code clears.

  2. Verify the battery is fully charged and the alternator is outputting the correct voltage, as low voltage can cause the module to lose power during its boot sequence.

  3. Check the unswitched and switched power supply fuses and harness connections leading to the XSC module to ensure it is receiving consistent power.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the John Deere Service ADVISOR™ diagnostic tool to the machine.

  2. Reprogram module

Attempt to reprogram the Steering System Control Unit (XSC) using the most current software payload file.

  3. Perform calibrations

If the software update is successful, perform all necessary steering system configurations and calibrations (e.g., wheel angle sensor calibration) as prompted by Service ADVISOR.

  4. Verify repair

Clear the diagnostic trouble codes and cycle the key switch to verify the repair.

  5. Replace module

If the XSC control unit cannot be reprogrammed, fails the software update, or the 000611.09 code immediately returns, the internal hardware/software of the module is permanently corrupted. You must replace the Steering System Control Unit (XSC).

Parts you might need
